Leading the way in AI and radiology
In 2003, Simon founded MEDICA which he built up to be the UK’s No 1 teleradiology provider, a company now listed on the LSE. Simon sold MEDICA to the largest charity in the UK, Nuffield Health in February 2013. A pioneer in outsourcing services in Radiology, Simon grew MEDICA into a national teleradiology reporting company.
Now leading behold.ai, with the goal of utilising AI to lead the way in tackling the issues facing Radiology internationally, starting in the UK and USA.
Dr Thomas Naunton Morgan
Formerly Medical Director of MEDICA Group, he is a renowned Consultant Radiologist with over 40 years of experience in the NHS.
Together with Simon, Tom helped set up and oversee the ‘NightHawk’ out-of-hours reporting service which is now used across the UK.
A digital pioneer in Radiology, his hospital embraced PACS to become the first fully digital hospital in the UK. Leveraging his vast clinical experience, Tom ensures our AI cognitive computing platform aligns with our vision for Radiologists.
Professor Rafel Tappouni
Dr Tappouni is a Professor of Radiology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, in North Carolina USA. Simon and Raf have known each other for over 15 years when Raf worked as one of the first Medica Nighthawk Radiologists. Fully trained and qualified in the UK as a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, he then emigrated to the US and became a US board certified Radiologist.
Raf brings his vast clinical knowledge and expertise from two healthcare systems to the company and has been instrumental in the development of the behold.ai algorithm.
Grainne is an experienced finance leader, working most recently as CFO for Coca-Cola HBC in Czech and Slovakia.
She has over 20 years experience in progressive finance leadership roles in Coca-Cola HBC and Diageo both in the UK, Ireland and abroad.
A qualified ACMA accountant along with a BA from Trinity College Dublin, Grainne has a strong record of strategically focusing commercial organizations to deliver accelerated revenue growth, while in parallel managing challenging cost base dynamics to optimize profitability.
As CFO in behold.ai., Grainne will focus on strategically driving the growth of the organization, to accelerate profitability and manage and deliver investor relationships and returns.
Dr Qaiser Malik
Qaiser is Clinical Director for MSB NHS Trust the largest non-teaching District General Hospital in the UK and Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director behold.ai.
A vastly experienced Radiologist and Lead in musculoskeletal radiology, he is a Senior clinical lecturer for the University College London Medical School and is also on the Scientific Programme and Committee for the Royal College of Radiologists.
His key focus is to develop the medical governance and clinical operational dimensions of our solutions in an acute setting for behold.ai.
Ruben is the COO and co-founder at Behold.ai overseeing the safe deployment of AI services to the NHS and international markets, and provides executive oversight of Behold.ai’s NHSX Phase 4 AI Award Chest X-ray study.
Ruben holds the Registered Manager responsibility for the Care Quality Commission, the first and only AI company to be registered with the CQC. He also is the Caldicott Guardian for the organisation both roles pivotal for clinical governance and patient safety.
He has attained an MBA from Warwick Business School and a Computer Science degree from Liverpool University.
Antony has over 20 years of experience as an international corporate lawyer, predominantly in M&A work and with a wealth of experience in advising healthcare and technology businesses ranging from start-ups to listed companies. Antony has particular expertise in capital raising, and working with and advising private equity and venture capital businesses.
As an experienced lawyer and leader, Antony has joined the behold.ai Executive team and will lead the Legal, Regulatory and Compliance and Public Policy functions in the next phase of behold.ai’s journey.
Antony’s key areas of focus will be to ensure that the business maintains its high levels of regulatory and legal compliance and implement the firm’s capital and fund-raising strategies.
Antony has an LLB in law from Southampton University and a Licence en Droit from the University of Rouen, France.
With a successful background in implementing highly resilient and hugely scalable IT systems, James succeeded in breaking down some of the technological barriers that existed within the traditional UK healthcare environment.
James joined MEDICA in 2006 with the task of building a UK-wide scalable, reliable and highly secure tele-radiology network that could tackle the challenges faced by radiology departments throughout the NHS.
He is a strong proponent of data security and digital privacy rights, enabling the correct handling of data to deliver world class solutions that can benefit the public in a safe and secure way.
At behold.ai James is responsible for building the infrastructure that will deliver the cutting-edge red dot™ cognitive computing platform to radiology teams across the globe in a fast, resilient and secure way.
Formerly head of Information Security and Compliance at Medica, Mike has a successful track record in implementing Information Security and Quality management systems in a digital healthcare environment.
Mike’s role is to help anticipate the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare applications. Mike utilises his knowledge of International standards and certifications to help behold.ai navigate through the challenging regulatory landscape quickly and smoothly.
The compliance and regulatory strategy that Mike will drive forwards in his role at behold.ai will seek to provide investors and clients with the trust and assurance that is so essential in today’s data driven world.
Giles has many years of effective operations management experience supporting critical clinical systems across the UK and India coupled with extensive knowledge of PACS systems, workflows and other clinical software.
Working closely with all teams across behold.ai, Giles will manage, operate and deliver a high quality service to behold.ai’s customers ensuring the latest behold.ai products are implemented and integrated in an effective manner to deliver benefit to the Radiology sector.
Marcus has over 30 years’ experience in Information Technology having gained extensive experience across a wide range of industrial sectors. Marcus’s greatest strength is in his ability to adapt to the ever changing IT landscape to learn new concepts and technologies. He has applied his skillset to creating Big Data platforms and to automate the deployment of testing and production systems.
Marcus is passionate about Agile and DevOps methodologies including the latest DevOps best practices for infrastructure automation. Marcus will work across both the Engineering and Operations functions to support behold.ai’s growth as an enterprise organisation.
Kenan is a Senior Python Engineer at behold.ai, he has over eight years of software development experience. He has architected and built a variety of products and services across healthcare, fintech and Adtech.
Kenan’s experience includes delivery of “The 100,000 Genomes Project” at Genomics England, this project was to automate the bioinformatics ingestion pipelines to bring whole genome sequencing to the NHS. Kenan works in our Engineering team and will be focused on to scale up our backend services to support the company’s growth.
Tom attained a Master’s in Computational Biochemistry from the University of Oxford in 2018. His research work focused on simulating protein-protein interactions within bacterial membranes and possible methods of inhibition.
Tom grew up in a medical family and is passionate about the potential of AI to alleviate stresses on global health systems and improve the accessibility of world-class healthcare for everyone. Bringing his experience of scaling up the Machine Learning team, Tom will lead our Research and Development team at behold.ai.
Gaëtan attained a Master’s in Advanced Computing from Imperial College London in 2020 and completed the Engineering programme of Ecole Polytechnique, France in 2019. His previous research work focused on drug repositioning and, more recently, on neonatal care for extremely preterm babies.
Gaëtan is driven by a strong belief in the capabilities of AI to tackle challenges in Health and Medicine, to provide valuable help to medical staff. Gaëtan brings experience and enthusiasm to the Machine Learning team at behold.ai.
George attained his Bachelors in Physics from the University of Birmingham in 2019, his final year project in Medical Imaging investigated a low radiation alternative to Gamma Cameras for use in tumour imaging.
George believes advances in AI will lead to improvements in the quality and speed of healthcare, freeing up resources for complex cases and preventative medicine in the process. He will be working within our Research and Development team focusing on the key areas of clinical data and increasing the efficiency of research as Behold.ai continues to innovate.
Nicole attained her PhD in Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychology from King’s College London, England. Throughout her academic career Nicole has always been passionate about healthcare, whether it is conducting research into preventative medicine or seeking ways to improve treatment options.
She has research experience relating to COVID-19, diet and nutrition, and child development studies all across multiple geographies. Nicole believes that AI has great capabilities to improving global healthcare systems, potentially making it more efficient and alleviating pressure on medical staff. Nicole will lead on behold.ai’s clinical research and validation efforts within the Research & Development team.
Liliana García Mondragón
Liliana holds a Master’s in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience from Maastricht University and is finishing her PhD at King’s College London, as part of the International Max Planck School for Translational Psychiatry. Liliana has extensive experience in health research, including topics related to mental health and cognition.
She is passionate about translating theoretical knowledge and research into practical solutions that can make a difference to patients and the healthcare sector. Liliana works on clinical research within the Research & Development team, helping Behold continue to deliver best in class evidence and working on the planning and implementation of clinical studies.
Indy brings his considerable industry experience to behold.AI with a strong background in regulatory compliance and quality management. After attaining a BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Sciences, Indy began his career working for a Global Bio Pharmaceutical company as a Regulatory CMC Associate.
Indy then gained a wealth of experience working as a Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Engineer for a UK based SME in the Orthopaedic Medical Device sector where his responsibilities included management of the QMS, and compliance to the ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 standards.
At Behold.ai, Indy will apply his extensive knowledge and experience to ensure that the business is able to deliver on its comprehensive Compliance and Regulatory Strategy.
David has over 25 years of regulated software experience mostly gained within “software as a medical device” companies. David brings extensive practical experience of analysis, design, testing and project management within the medical imaging domain as well as local and international quality and regulatory experience to support behold.ai’s international expansion strategy. His previous roles include technical engineering with the Royal Air Force.
David is looking forward to using his experience and making a significant contribution to the global success of Behold.ai.
Jordan attained a Master’s in Computer Science from University College London in 2021. His previous research work has focused on a Cystic Fibrosis application, Care4CF, enabling patients to log daily treatment activity, having seen a close friend suffer with the condition.
Jordan is passionate about the use of AI to solve complex problems in healthcare, to deliver better and smarter tools to clinicians. Jordan works within our Research and Development team to drive the on-going product development and to continually improve its performance, efficacy and safety.
Kevin has 18 years of regulated software test experience, gained in “software as a medical device” companies. Kevin has extensive experience in the Software Test Life Cycle, having been test lead for multiple advanced imaging applications within the Oncology, Cardiology, and Radiotherapy disciplines.
Kevin has also been the test lead for the first to market deep learning auto-contouring application, delineating organs at risk for CT image patient data. His extensive experience will make a significant difference in enabling the delivery of safe medical devices to the global healthcare market.
Dr Teik Chooi Oh
Dr Teik Chooi Oh is an experienced Consultant Radiologist with Musculoskeletal and Radionuclide speciality interests. He has been heavily involved in education for both undergraduates and postgraduates and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer for The University of Manchester as well as Educational Supervisor and Academic Adviser.
An experienced manager, he has held Clinical Director and Governance Lead roles. He is currently Deputy Lead of the MSK Special Interest Group (SIG) for Royal College of Radiologists (RCR). He is a member of Greater Manchester Senate Assembly. Dr Chooi Oh has been elected to start term as Executive Committee Member in British Skeletal Society of Radiologists (BSSR) end of 2020.
Dr Chooi Oh co-authored the Pocket Tutor for Musculoskeletal Radiology with Dr Mehan. He is also co-author in Bone Disease (5th Series) vol.53, published in 2010. He has published several papers. He has great interest in technology in healthcare and its practical applications, especially the use of A.I. technologies.
Dr Sherif Raouf
Dr Sherif Raouf is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Barts Health and previously divisional director of Cancer and clinical support at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed his oncology training at Charing Cross, Mount Vernon and UCL Hospitals
With over 15 years’ experience in cancer management, he is a firm believer of the value AI can bring to cancer diagnosis that will lead to improvement in turnaround time for cancer patients.
Sherif’s extensive experience focuses on clinical governance, delivering seamless integration of new technologies into the NHS with maximum interoperability into current systems.
Dr Rakesh Mehan
Dr Rakesh Mehan is a Consultant Radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. He trained at the University of Manchester and undertook post graduate training in Radiology on the Manchester training scheme.
He was appointed to Bolton Hospitals in 2001 as Consultant Radiologist to set up the Musculoskeletal Magnetic Resonance Imaging service and develop Musculoskeletal ultrasound and imaging guided therapeutic injections.
He has extensive experience in general and musculoskeletal radiology, has a keen interest in IT and PACS and has served as an elected executive committee member of the British Skeletal Radiology Society. He has co-authored a popular introductory text on musculoskeletal radiology, Pocket Tutor for Musculoskeletal Radiology, with Dr Chooi Oh.
Dr Sanjiv Chawda
Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiologist at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2000, Dr Sanjiv Chawda is an exceptionally experienced neuroradiologist. Qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine, he subsequently completed his Neuroradiology Fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He has been the lead for Neuroradiology for more than 20 years, and Clinical Director for Radiology between 2004-2008, and again since 2017. He set up the Neuro-Interventional Service at Queens University Hospital 20 years ago and provides Neuroradiology Support to referring hospitals from Essex. He supervises Radiology Trainees coming from East of England Deanery coming specifically for Neuroradiology Training.
Mr Jim Gray
Jim is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, a Digital Health Entrepreneur and Healthcare Advisor. He has been Clinical Director of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust since 2013. His role has defined redesigns of clinical areas as well as service reorganisation. He was chosen for the UCL Partners Improvement Fellowship programme for 2018, NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Programme in 2019 and is focused upon quality improvements not just for clinicians, but to find synergies for all. He has a role as Specialist Advisor for Hospitals for the CQC.
Jim aims to bring clinician-centred design to digital healthcare process, gathering rich data, speed and enhanced customer satisfaction. He is a passionate voice for digital enablement demanding a mobile first user-centred approach and believes we must reach a sweet spot between technology, the clinical frontline and environmental design.

Dr Michael Hughes
A consultant radiologist for approaching three decades, Mike has a wealth of wide ranging experience in the NHS, private sector and more recently the tele-radiology arenas of radiological practise. He has a natural enthusiasm for adopting and implementing new technologies to help serve the increasing demands for radiology – with a particular emphasis on the district general hospital environment.
He is an experienced teacher at pre and postgraduate levels on medical, nursing and radiographer courses as well as holding post-graduate tutor role for over five years at Warwick & Stratford upon Avon Hospitals. He is also a co-author (with his medical brother) of two radiology texts for student and MRCP exam levels.
Mike believes we are at the dawning of a new age of technology and computer assisted radiology services which will lead to a dramatic improvement for clinical colleagues and patients alike. The focus on timely access to radiology results and subsequent improved patient safety is his motivation in contributing to the behold.ai projects.
